How to study Effortless English

Organize a practice session around these four steps.

1. Listen for meaning

Replay the story; notice meaning and intonation.

Open the story section on engless. Listen once before checking the translation. Use the transcript and sentence replay for unclear passages. Slow down when needed, then return to normal speed.

2. Practise questions

Respond to Mini Story questions.

If available, select the Mini Story section. Pause after a question, answer aloud and compare with the response. Replay the relevant sentence when you get stuck and start with a short answer.

3. Change perspectives

Notice tense changes in Point of View.

If available, open Point of View and find a familiar sentence expressed differently. Check it in the transcript, then replay the passage. Otherwise, keep practising the story and question sections your lesson includes.

4. Practise speaking

Finish with speaking practice.

Pause playback and retell a few points or answer a question without reading. Try this engless exercise: change a character’s name in a familiar sentence and retell the situation. Check your lesson points in Continue learning afterwards.

Seven reminders

  1. Remember phrases.
  2. Learn grammar in context.

  7. Stay relaxed.

Continue next time

Choose one sentence or section to review before you finish. Use Continue learning on Home to return to that lesson. For tasks across several days, open the engless seven-day listening plan.

Common questions

What if my lesson does not have all four sections?

Use the sections your lesson includes. Not every lesson has Mini Story or Point of View audio. You can still listen to the story, check the transcript and retell the main idea.

Where can I find a daily schedule?

Open Listening tips on Home for the seven-day listening plan. Adjust that practice schedule to the time you have available.
